14,190 words. First draft of Sleight of Hand is done! I’m thrilled to pieces. I love my two main characters, an ex-Buffalo Soldier named Jerob Deal and his vampire friend, a former Jesuit priest, Raphael Torrance, traveling companions through a steampunkish, post-Civil War West, having adventures while searching for a place that might not exist. I’m so pleased at having written the final scene. Now I can do a complete read-through. I’ll let it sit for a few days, and then I’m going to start nitpicking and hole hunting. Excuse me while I waltz happily about the room.
