11,205. Sometimes, creeping along in constipated traffic, I look up and have no idea where I am, what freeway I’m on, or where I’m going. Nope, not on drugs, simply lost in the overwhelming mundanity of daily life, of doing the same goddamn thing over and over every damn day.

Ok. Enough of that.

How’s Trail of Shadows coming along? Splendid, so far. I notice I’m not hitting my 500-word a day goal, but I won’t obsess about the number of words written each session. The important thing is the way the story is shaping up, whether or not a scene to comes to life, whether or not I’m making purposeful progress in the writing. It isn’t the words; it’s what they mean; it’s their significance in the story.  This morning I greatly improved Aloli’s scene with the magistrate superior, and I’m pleased with the work of the past couple days. What counts is my satisfaction.
