The Love Potion, Evelyn De Morgan

50,012. Today’s the day. Writers write, and today I begin the rewrite of Silk River. I need only focus on one scene, Jewel taking a shower. How Jewel takes a shower reflects what has happened to her, how she feels, how she’s coping. The touchstone of the scene is Jewel’s psyche.

I’ve decided to write longhand rather than compose on the Mac. I don’t want my thoughts to become confused; I don’t want glibness to creep in; I don’t want “magazine writing.” As always, I’m in pursuit of perfection, but really, all I want today is to write that scene to my satisfaction.

Outside it’s sunny, breezy, looks like another day like yesterday, but maybe not as warm. I’m torn between staying in or taking my pen and tablet to the bluff. The air coming in through the screen is cool and sweet. Sunlight shines on the spring green leaves of the great shaggy tree outside my bedroom window. Levi is perched on my desk, nose to the window screen, watching all the action–sunlight, breezes, shadow, flitting wrens–with feline wistfulness.

I’m going to make a cup of coffee, and I think I’ll stay in with my tablet and pen. Maybe take a walk later.
